Alex Gibby, Head Men’s Coach, College of William and Mary

  • Second-place finish at the NCAA Southeast Regional
  • W&M’s eighth-straight selection to the NCAA Championship.
  • CAA Coach of the Year.
  • At CAA Track Championship27 of 33 athletes scored points, and 60 percent (24 of 40) of the scoring positions in the distance events were occupied by Tribe athletes.
  • Came from Stephen F. Austin State University, where he was the head men’s and women’s cross country coach and an assistant track coach for three seasons.
  • Four-time All-CAA honoree
  • CAA champion in the 5,000m and IC4A qualifier in the 5,000m and 10,000m.
  • member of two NCAA-qualifying cross country squads (1994 and 1995).

Kathy Newberry, Head Women’s Coach, College of William and Mary

  • Won the 2005 CAA Track Championship
  • Four CAA champions, one ECAC champion, 20 all-conference citationsQualified for the 2004 Olympic Trials finals in both the 5000m and 10000m, finishing 13th and 14th, respectively.
  • Ended 2004 ranked 10th nationally in the 10000m.
  • 25th at the 2004 World Cross Country Championships
  • Third in the 2003 USATF Fall Cross Country Championships and also competed at the 2005 USATF Track and Field Championships, in the 5,000m.
    Two tine CAA Champion (3,000m and 5,000m)
  • All-CAA and all-region in cross country every season
  • Tribe’s fourth-fastest 1,500m time (4:28.37), fifth-fastest 3,000m time (9:38.13) and ninth-fastest 5,000m time (16:49.29). Post- collegiately, she has dropped her times, running 15:45.32 for 5,000m and 32:45.78 for 10,000m

Coach Brian Schmidt, Dominion High School

  • Graduated Herndon High in 1986 (All-state in XC and track)
  • Ran at JMU all 4 years, earned all-conference honors 2 times.
  • Coaching for 10 years, the last 3 have been at Dominion HS in Sterling, VA.
  • Still runs competitively in the area but the last year and half has been running ultramarathons.
  • Currently training for a 100K in September which will take place in mountains of the George Washington National Park.

Mike Dominguez (College of William and Mary/UNLV/JD Smith MS)

  • 2002 Graduate of Herndon High School
  • Helped lead Herndon to first team appearances at state track and cross country championships in 12 years
  • All District and All Region at Herndon in cross country and track
  • Ran 4 years at the College of William and Mary, 2006
  • 3-time All CAA in track
  • IC4A and NCAA Regional Qualifier in track
  • CAA conference champion in Steeplechase
  • President's award winner for Cross country and Phi Beta Kappa athlete while at W&M
  • Currently competing in triathlon and marathon for RunBikeSwim Las Vegas
  • Training for Austin Marathon in February with aspirations of running World Champs qualifying time (2:21)
  • Debuted in half-ironman with 6 th place age group finish at Ironman California
  • Works with UNLV (and his own) coach Tony Houchin as volunteer
  • Has had, and recovered from, every running related injury and illness imaginable; from torn abdominal muscle to knee surgery to Morton's neuroma to mono to being hit by cars, etc.
  • Blessed with ability to wake up very early, and powerful vocal cords

Chynell Gray (Norfolk State University)

  • I ended my senior year of Track & Field on February 2, 2007. I twisted and dislocated my ankle and broke fibula bone the Friday before my Indoor District meet, so I had to sit out the rest of the season.
  • My best 1000m run – time of 3:12.00
  • Heptathlon - 27th in the AAU National Youth Elite Ranking
  • Six time team captain (XC, Indoor, Outdoor)

Jessie Livingtson (Brigham Young University)

Tara Markey (University of Richmond)

  • Ran a personal best time of 2:14 in the 800m, placing 4th at the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships this outdoor.

  • Ran on the 4x400 relay which placed second in the A-10 championship with a Spider record time of 3:49.97 in 2006

Alex Nissen(Virginia Tech)

Allegra Smith (James Madison University)

  • All-state eight times, all-region nine times and all-district nine times. Team's Cross Country co-MVP as a senior. The Cougars were Northern Region and Concorde District champions 2004.
  • Her 3,200m relay team won two state championships and earned All-America recognition at Nike National Meet 2005. Relay set state record of 9:06 2005.
  • Four-time recipient of Oakton Coaches Award.
  • Two-time winner of Oakton's Scholar Athlete Award.

Rasheed Thompson (Georgetown University)
